Phew, its good to be back. Below are three portraits for an exhibition coming up next week. The exhibition has been orgnanised with a group of four others. Each artist chose a subject that reflects Bath to them in some way. I chose a volunteer at the Bath Abbey, the curator of the American Museum just outside Bath and a waitress from the Pump Room which is Bath's poshest place to have tea. One of the challenges was that the portraits had to be A6 in size, so these are all small pieces of work.

I enjoyed these paintings very much - I love the capturing of a certain essential quality in your figures, the too long sleeve, the frowning face in Drawing Number One.. and the very long purple legs in Drawing Number Three! Did you sketch quickly and paint in later?

These paintings are quite a sight to behold. The details and the colors, such patience! Although painting on a small canvas or material looks easier compared to those that are big or huge, doing the details is the real challenge. Your choice of colors and the random innocent grace in your paintings' overall atmosphere reminds me of matisse.
